Elementary Education Program Coordinator


The Program Coordinator leads the K–5 implementation of Explore in the Classroom, a dynamic, equity-focused 

initiative aimed at closing opportunity gaps in school districts by enhancing STEM and literacy instruction. This role involves designing and delivering model lessons 

aligned with PA-Core and STEELS standards, co-teaching with educators, and providing Act 48-approved 

professional development. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

1. Classroom Instruction and Lesson Development – Explore in the Classroom (Grades K–5) 

  • Design and author standards-aligned lesson plans that integrate academic disciplines, such as literacy-based STEM 

instruction, in alignment with PA Core Standards (K–5). 

  • Deliver high-quality, inquiry-based, and project-based instruction using evidence-based pedagogies 

(e.g., hands-on learning, realia, modeling, scaffolding). 

  • Exhibit strong classroom management skills to effectively engage diverse learners in varied classroom environments. 
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with classroom teachers and building administrators. 
  • Contribute to marketing and outreach efforts to inform stakeholders—teachers, administrators, families, and funders

—about the program. 

  • Coordinate the scheduling of school visits in collaboration with principals and host teachers. 
  • Identify instructional material needs and work with supervisors to ensure timely procurement aligned with financial 

protocols. 

  • Support logistical preparation for classroom activities and program implementation (e.g., organizing materials, 

managing costume characters, distributing handouts). 

  • Collaborate with teachers to evaluate program outcomes and support data collection for assessment of impact. 

2. Program Support – Community Events and Summer Programs 

  • Assist with the planning, preparation, and implementation of events such as Kids Night Out, Ready, Set, Explore, and 

summer camps. 

  • Collaborate with the instructional team to prepare lessons, organize materials, and manage logistics. 
  • Lead or support instructional delivery in various formats, including learning stations, direct teaching, and small group 

facilitation. 

3. Professional Learning and Workshop Facilitation 

  • Support the design and delivery of professional learning experiences for educators. 
  • Co-present and contribute instructional examples during teacher workshops. 
  • Facilitate and manage logistics for professional development events, including sessions at the Pennsylvania Department 

of Education’s annual ELD conference (e.g., Zoom hosting, speaker introductions, technical support, Act 48 coordination). 

  • Assist with the processing of Act 48 continuing education credit documentation. 

4. Professional Engagement and Collaboration 

  • Represent Pennon Education at regional meetings and professional convenings. 
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay informed on best practices, research, and innovations in education. 

5. Additional Responsibilities 

  • Complete other tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor or organizational designee. 


Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in education with PA elementary certification (required). Preferred: ESL, Reading 

Specialist, Special Ed, Instructional Coach, or STEM credentials. 

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of full-time K–5 teaching experience in U.S. schools (grades 3–5 preferred); year-long 

student teaching accepted. 

  • Instructional Skills: Proven ability to design and deliver standard-aligned, evidence-based instruction for diverse 

learners, particularly those facing opportunity gaps. 

  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Zoom, Teams, and file sharing platforms; strong 

computer literacy and digital communication. 

  • Communication: Excellent writing and professional communication skills, including web and correspondence. 
  • Organizational Ability: Strong multitasking, time management, and team coordination skills; able to meet deadlines 

independently or in collaboration. 

  • Interpersonal Skills: Effective relationship builder; maintains professionalism, tact, and calm in dynamic settings.
