Lead Facilities and Ground Technician

Work Location: Position is based in Harrisburg, PA but will drive a company vehicle (non-revenue vehicle) to our other PA counties to perform work.

Pay Range: $21-$23/hour

Schedule: Monday thru Friday 6 AM - 2:30 PM, requires flexibility for occasional weekend and evening; over time, as workload requires.

The Lead Facilities and Ground Technician is responsible for assisting, training and overseeing Facilities and Grounds and performing a variety of general servicing to maintain the facilities, general ground maintenance, and performing small repairs in accordance with the Authority procedures. 

Position reports to the Facilities Manager. 

Some of the Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Achieves the Authority's mission by preparing for daily assignments by receiving instructions from management, as well as having the ability to prioritize own work to accomplish tasks in a timely fashion. Ability to be flexible as priorities change throughout the day. Ability to oversee work being completed by the Facilities and Grounds team to ensure the high standards of the Authority.

Handles a variety of building and grounds tasks that require knowledge of hand/power tool usage, basic roof repairs, carpentry, mechanical systems repairs, plumbing and basic electrical troubleshooting. 

Maintains a clean and safe work area by sweeping floors, clearing floors and work surfaces of trash, and returning working materials and equipment to proper storage area. Assists in grounds maintenance such as planting, watering, weed control and other landscaping duties as required. Painting, operating a pressure washer, picking up debris and snow removal or any event that causes the need to maintain building accessibility and prevention/clean-up as needed. Assists with cleaning of Authority's facilities, both interior and exterior, to include but not limited to cleaning offices and restrooms, sweeping floors, clearing floors and work surfaces of trash, returning working materials and equipment to proper storage area, and cleaning up spills as needed. 

Assists with setup of tables and chairs for meetings and events. May be required to make pickups and deliveries as needed. Seasonal changes involving the set up and break down of outdoor amenities.

Completes small repairs to the facilities as instructed by management. Maintenance responsibilities may include but are not limited to general office repairs such as leaks, light bulb/ballast replacement, electrical outlet replacement, replacing/unclogging toilets or sinks and/or garbage disposals, drywall repairs, painting, and roof leaks. Works with outside contractors to repair property damage repairs and signage. Handles as needed: minor repairs to bus shelters and bus stop signs; installation of new bus stop signs. Some assembly required for items such as shelving units, office cabinets, etc. May be required to move and lift heavy boxes and objects. Miscellaneous projects as assigned. These tasks will be required across the entire system, with the exception of the Harrisburg division office. Recommends when an outside contractor will be required. Ability to describe required work to a contractor or manager to obtain the required pricing to complete the repair. 

Conserves and maintains supplies by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results; monitoring supplies, checking inventory; anticipating and requesting needed supplies.

Inspect the properties to identify necessary repairs or updates and documents steps, tools and parts required to complete the work.

Some of the Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience:

  • Minimum of one to three years experience in janitorial, grounds keeper and building/facility small repair duties preferred.
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools
  • Basic understanding of electricity and ability to install/change receptacles/light fixtures/ ballast, etc.
  • Basic understanding of plumbing and the ability to repair/replace toilets and related components, sink traps, faucets, etc.
  • Basic understanding of sheetrock hanging, taping, spackling, repair, etc.
  • Previous forklift experience. 
  • Ability to work independently and with other(s) as job task requires.
  • Ability to interact courteously and effectively with a diverse staff and foster positive work environment.

Certificates and Licenses Required: Must possess valid motor vehicle operator's license that is not under suspension or revocation and possess current automobile insurance coverage.
