Secondary Education Program Coordinator

Summary:  The Secondary Education Program Coordinator leads the design, coordination, and 

implementation of Explore in the Classroom for grades 

6–12. This innovative program serves school districts facing persistent 

opportunity gaps, enhancing instruction through a blend of modeled lessons, 

co-teaching, and embedded professional development.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Design and deliver interdisciplinary, standards-aligned lesson plans for grades 6–12 as part of the Explore in the Classroom program. 
  • Apply research-based instructional strategies and cutting-edge pedagogies (e.g., inquiry- and project-based learning). 
  • Maintain strong classroom management and build collaborative relationships with teachers and administrators. 
  • Coordinate school visits and assist with marketing and communications related to the program. 
  • Identify instructional materials and support program preparation (e.g., labeling, printing, costume character use). 
  • Collaborate on lesson evaluation and assess program effectiveness with partner teachers. 
  • Support instruction at extracurricular and community programs (e.g., Kids Night OutReady, Set, Explore, summer camps). 
  • Prepare for and help lead learning activities during camps and events (e.g., teaching stations, small groups). 
  • Assist in planning and facilitating teacher professional learning workshops, including co-presenting and managing logistics. 
  • Support Act 48 credit processing and technical needs during events like the PDE ELD conference. 
  • Represent Pennon Education at professional meetings and participate in ongoing professional learning. 
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, with certification in Science, Social Studies, English, or Library Science. Extra certifications (like ESL, Reading Specialist, Special Ed, etc.) are a plus. 
  • Experience: At least 1 year of teaching middle or high school students. A student teaching year counts as experience. 
  • Curriculum Design: Experience creating lessons that follow academic standards. 
  • Support for At-Risk Students: Knowledge of strategies to help students facing challenges like poverty, homelessness, or language barriers. 
  • Critical Thinking: Strong analytical skills. 
  • Setting Objectives: Ability to set goals to measure program success. 
  • Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office, databases, Google Drive, Microsoft Teams, etc. 
  • Virtual Tools: Familiar with Zoom and Microsoft Teams for meetings. 
  • Writing Skills: Strong writing, including web content and emails. 
  • Organization: Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. 
  • Teamwork: Able to work well independently and in teams. 
  • Communication: Able to build positive relationships with colleagues, students, and external partners. 
  • People Skills: Diplomatically handle sensitive situations and communicate effectively with various groups.
