Senior Development Manager, Marketing

We are looking for an experienced full-time Senior Development Manager, Marketing to manage the external and internal marketing strategies of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank (CPFB). This position also assists the CDO in determining, contracting for, and managing necessary Outsourced Services for communications, advertising, public relations, and media activities, with a focus on increasing brand awareness and expanding donor giving and engagement. Under the direction of the CDO, this Senior Development Manager coordinates internal communications, marketing, web, and social media messaging at strategic and tactical levels with other functions of the CPFB.

Job Accountabilities:

•Conduct skillful analysis of identified constituencies and develop communication tactics or outreach to meet identified needs and influence public perception and action.

•Prioritize donor stewardship encompassing the cultivation, retention, and recognition of individuals, organizations, and corporations.

•Develop, manage, and execute an annual marketing plan for the CPFB to span across all media (online and offline) to reach appropriate target audiences, based upon specific performance goals.

•Assist the CDO in determining, contracting for, and managing necessary Outsourced Services for communications, marketing, public relations and media activities.

•Serve as spokesperson or public information officer as directed by the CEO and CDO.

•Foster best practices and execute marketing campaigns to increase donations, volunteer engagement, and advocacy efforts.

•Assist in managing internally-produced communications for consistency and cohesive brand image; ensure that messages are integrated across the organization. Proof and edit all promotional materials, including all advertising and digital campaigns and web content.

•Design, produce, and supervise online communication materials used in internal and external marketing and communications initiatives. Collaborate with the Chief Equity Officer, CEO, CDO, and others to ensure alignment with CPFB branding and values.

•Manage all online media including, but not limited to, CPFB’s website, online social media, including Facebook, Twitter and blogs, YouTube, and emerging media.

•Collaborate on external communication efforts with other team members and Outsourced Services including, but not limited to, publicity for events, promotion, cause-marketing, program launches, breaking news, etc.

•In collaboration with Outsourced Services, serve as liaison between the CPFB and local and regional journalists to generate increased coverage and awareness of the CPFB’s work/mission; cultivate and sustain relationships.

•Working with staff and Outsourced Services, develop a system of metrics to measure effectiveness of communications and marketing efforts.

•Track, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of all digital marketing activity.

•Coordinate and develop promotional materials and publications, including annual reports, brochures, newsletters, bulletins, or videos; ensure materials are timely, consistent with brand standard, and available as needed to audiences including donors, media, and partners.

•Write compelling profiles of clients, donors, and partners to be used in print and online.

•Work with the Executive Team and Outsourced Services to create a comprehensive crisis communications strategy and execution.

•Provide leadership in best practices, including analytics, for digital communications and social media.

•Supervise the maintenance of media clippings and digital photo archive.

•Assist the CEO and CDO in building and training a group of speakers who can articulate the CPFB’s story and message at events and speaking engagements.

•Lead CPFB’s outreach efforts related to Hunger Action Month and other major events.

•Oversee the creative deliverables of Outside Services as necessary for individual projects.

•Oversee the bidding and production process for print materials.

•Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.


Other Duties:

•In instances of a federal, state or locally declared emergency, CPFB is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder; all employees may be called in to perform regular or emergent duties.

Education and Experience:

Education:

•Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or Communications is preferred. Combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge and skills for the position would be considered in lieu of having a degree.


Experience:

•Five to ten years of progressively responsible experience in project management, development, communications and/or public relations with team leadership and staff management responsibilities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

•Previous work experience in a non-profit business environment preferred.

•Additional years of experience combined with an Associate’s degree would be considered in lieu of having a Bachelor’s degree.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

•Ability to understand and work with the diverse dynamics of a non-profit as well as multi-cultural populations.

•Must be a self-starter with a proven track record in strategic communications, media relations, social media, and newsletter writing, editing, and production.

•Ability to develop and execute strategic communications and marketing plans.

•Experienced writer and editor including proofing skills, including a knowledge of Associated Press (AP) and web-based writing styles.

•Excellent verbal communication skills; able to communicate confidently and effectively in front of small or large groups.

•Expert in social media strategy; ability to engage consumers and supporters.

•Extensive skills in public and media relations.

•Knowledge of digital marketing strategies.

•Proficient in relevant creative and graphic arts software and tools.

•Ability to abide by the CPFB’s values and appropriate business ethics at all times.

•Must be able to make independent decisions.

•Ability to work as part of a high-performance team and be a strong team player.

•Exhibit strong written, analytical, presentation, planning, time management and organizational skills. Ability to write, edit and proofread correspondence and presentation materials for accuracy and style.

•Must be detail-oriented with the ability to plan, prioritize, take initiative, resolve problems, meet deadlines and multi-task.

•Must be reliable, with high integrity and strong work ethic.

•Possess effective negotiation and problem-solving skills.

•Ability to provide excellent internal and external customer service.

•Participate in internal committees and workgroups as required.

•Knowledge of the organization’s computer software and systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, department-specific software systems, telecommunications, and internet applications.

•Actively attend manager’s meetings and participate in the CPFB management team.

•Ability to attend departmental and all-staff meetings as directed, staying informed of ongoing changes in department and overall organization.

•Ability to operate standard office equipment (machines, tools, and devices) used in performing only the essential function include computer and related equipment, calculator, photocopier, fax machine, and telephone.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

•May directly supervise 1-3 employees.

•Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

•Responsibilities include interviewing, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

•Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, if applicable.

Physical Requirements or Licenses:

•This position is considered hybrid, with a mix of required in-person and remote attendance that varies with the calendar of events, activities, projects, and workflow needs.

•Ability to travel that may include consecutive overnight stays, and traveling by car, bus, and airplane.

•A valid driver’s license with history of a good driving record.

•Conditions may include working outside in inclement weather, working closely with others, working alone, and working protracted or irregular hours.

•Must be able to occasionally lift or move up to 35 pounds.

•The work environment is typically quiet.
