BBBS of the Capital Region expands services to enhance support and increase mentoring opportunities for youth.
Harrisburg, PA (October 24, 2024) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region (BBBSCR) is thrilled to announce a significant expansion of its service area, broadening its reach from 5 to 7 counties through the acquisition of the BBBS York & Adams Counties affiliate. To align with their new service region, BBBSCR is changing its name to Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central PA.
Amy Rote, President & CEO states, “We are now serving 7 out of 8 counties in the South-Central PA region. Our new name aims to enhance our visibility and strengthen our connection with the community.”
The nonprofit’s one-to-one mentoring programs are grounded in evidence-based practices that help young people develop the skills and confidence needed to navigate life’s challenges. By expanding into these new counties, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of South-Central PA is poised to make an even greater impact on the lives of youth, helping them reach their full potential.
The expansion is part of the organization’s commitment to ensure young people have access to the guidance, encouragement and positive role models that are vital for their development and success.
“We were asked by our neighboring York & Adams affiliate to assist with the growth of services and to introduce innovative programs that respond to the challenges and needs of our youth in these communities,” says Rote.
“The York office will continue to serve York & Adams counties, just as it has for over 40 years,” explains Rote. “Through this acquisition, we are broadening our footprint and increasing the effectiveness of our network to better serve the youth across South Central Pennsylvania. As we tell our friends, volunteers and partners, ‘we are Bigger Together!’”
A ribbon cutting was held at the York office on Wednesday, October 23rd at their new address: 227 W. Market Street, Suite 104, York, PA 17401.
“Our new office space is better suited for our growing team and expansion of our services,” says Marina Brown, Director of York & Adams Counties. “We’ve aligned our internal processes with our current programs, and we are preparing to bring established BBBS of South-Central PA programs to our communities and kids in York and Adams counties.”
As part of this transition, BBBS of South-Central PA will be updating its logo, website, and marketing materials. These changes will be rolled out over the next few months.
“We are deeply grateful to Powder Mill Foundation, Warehime Foundation and Adams County Community Foundation, along with our partners, donors and supporters for making this expansion possible.” says Brown.
United Way of Adams County, United Way of York County and York County Community Foundation continue to support the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters and the organization’s programs in York and Adams counties.
BBBS of South-Central PA is actively seeking additional volunteers, partners, and supporters to help sustain and enhance its expanded services. Interested individuals and organizations can learn more about getting involved by visiting CAPBIGS.ORG or on social media @bbbscapregion.
"We are excited about this new chapter and look forward to continuing our work with the same passion and dedication that has defined us for years," adds Rote.
