Breeder House Project In Perry County Receives PIDA Approval
HARRISBURG, PA (May 3, 2023) The Harrisburg Regional Chamber & Capital Region Economic Development Corporation (CREDC) is pleased to announce that the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority (PIDA) approved financing for a breeder house project to be constructed in Juniata Township, Perry County.
The project, being undertaken by Glenn & Bethany Martin, involves the construction of a 42’x600’ breeder house to breed chickens which will produce fertilized eggs supplying Longenecker’s Hatchery.
“We are thrilled to receive approval for the PIDA loan and look forward to the successful completion of the breeder house,” said Glenn Martin. “This loan will allow us to expand our operations and provide customers with the highest quality fertilized eggs.”
The total cost of construction of the breeder house will be $830,000. $400,000 was approved by PIDA and $430,000 by Horizon Farm Credit.
Construction of the breeder house is expected to be completed in the summer of 2023. Upon completion of construction, Longenecker will provide all training, support, and a beginning breeding flock of approximately 15,300 pullets and 1,700 males.

Administered through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), the PIDA program provides low-interest loans and lines of credit to Pennsylvania businesses that commit to creating and retaining full-time jobs in the Commonwealth, as well as for development of industrial parks and multi-tenant facilities. Applications are packaged and underwritten by CREDC and other Certified Economic Development Organizations (CEDOs) that partner with PIDA.
