Co-Owners of Mountz Jewelers Selected as 2024 Retailer Hall of Fame Inductees by National Jeweler
National Jeweler announced that Ron Leitzel and Tonia Leitzel Ulsh, the brother/sister co-owners of Mountz Jewelers have been selected as 2024 inductees for its Retailer Hall of Fame, an annual honor given to jewelers who’ve made significant contributions to their communities and industry. National Jeweler is the must-read news source for smart jewelry professionals and is published by Jewelers of America, the leading nonprofit jewelry association in the United States.
Throughout their 45 years of fine jewelry and 5-star service, Ron and Tonia have ensured that the Mountz Jewelers name has been synonymous with community.
“Ron and Tonia are so deserving of this honor,” National Jeweler Editor-in-Chief Michelle Graff said. “We are pleased to be able to recognize them, and eager to share their stories in our annual Retailer Hall of Fame issue, which will be out this fall.”
Ron and Tonia come from a family history of entrepreneurs. With three locations, they are proud to be the premier jeweler in Central Pennsylvania.
The family jewelry tradition began back in 1949, when Ron and Tonia’s uncle opened a retail jewelry and gift store in Millersburg, PA. Their father joined his brother in the business and eventually purchased it in 1967. In October 1979, the family grew their retail business with the purchase of Mountz Jewelers in downtown Carlisle.
Ron at an early age made the decision to join the family business. He served in the military and attended Bowman Technical school where he became a certified watchmaker. As a visionary Ron expanded Mountz Jewelers into other markets in Central Pennsylvania. Ron has always been a big picture entrepreneur. He wanted to develop a group of independent jewelry stores to provide personalized services and bring leading brands to the community in which he lived. Ron has served on multiple bank boards and is a member of the Alexis De Tocqueville Society of the United Way.
Tonia joined Mountz Jewelers in 1989 after attending the Gemological Institute in Santa Monica to become a Graduate Gemologist. Tonia worked her way up in the business by demonstrating leadership skills and implementing new ideas. She also became a Certified Gemologist Appraiser through the American Gem Society. She continues to build the foundation on which Mountz Jewelers was built. Tonia currently serves on the board of directors of Jewelers of America and The Salvation Army of Harrisburg Capital Region. She is a member of the Alexis De Tocqueville Society of the United Way and Legatus while also volunteering for Midwest Food Bank, United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County and Saint Patrick School in Carlisle.
Together Ron and Tonia have brought top jewelry and watch designers to Central PA. Mountz Jewelers is known to be involved in many non-profit events throughout central Pennsylvania. This is a key part of the DNA of both Ron and Tonia as well as the culture they have built at Mountz Jewelers. Mountz Jewelers, and their 48 employees, have been recognized with multiple community and industry awards. This was never the intent but the result of the passion they have for the jewelry industry and their community.
