Lower Paxton Township Seeks Community Input on Possibility Place Reimagined

LOWER PAXTON, Pa. — Lower Paxton Township (Lower Paxton) is upgrading Possibility Place, an ADA-accessible playground in George Park. The township will reveal the new design at Fall Festival on Saturday, October 4 at George Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees may share their input into the design with on-site voting.

Community input shaped Possibility Place from the beginning. First constructed in 2006, the inclusive playground—the first of its kind in central Pennsylvania—was a joint effort by volunteer-led organization, Inspired Recreation, and 1,500 other neighbors.

Janis Creason, former president of Inspired Recreation, remembers the project as a labor of love for the community. “We went into several elementary schools to have the children meet with the designers and express their dreams for the community playground they imagined. Then the designers developed a design incorporating the features the children wanted most.”

Nearly 20 years later, Possibility Place is now in need of significant upgrades. A public survey issued from October 2024 to May 2025 indicated that residents want play equipment allowing children to be both more independent and allow for collaborative play; increased shade and seating; and a clear line of sight throughout the new Possibility Place. Lower Paxton is working with a Steering Committee including residents with disabilities, parents of children with disabilities, engineers, and inclusive play experts to bring the reimagined playground to life.

“The feedback parents have provided is valuable in getting this right,” says Creason. “We envision a place where children of all abilities can explore and play together, while parents and caregivers can connect in a safe, comfortable setting. This is an opportunity to create a welcoming and sustainable space for the next generation.

Just as it did two decades ago, this project will once again unite our community around the shared joy of creating a place where families can thrive.”
