Penbrook Borough Soccer Mini-Pitch Now Open

– A new $100,000 soccer mini-pitch has been installed at Penbrook Community Park, marking the first of many planned improvements for the location. The installation of the mini-pitch was a fully grant-funded initiative driven by Philadelphia Soccer 2026, the local host committee for FIFA World Cup 26™, in partnership with the US Soccer Foundation and Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer. The project was secured with support from the JT Dorsey Foundation The mini-pitch will provide a safe, high-quality playing surface designed specifically for small-sided soccer games, offering numerous benefits to the community including: 

 Year-round accessibility with a durable, all-weather surface that requires minimal maintenance 

 Increased physical activity opportunities for youth and families in a fun, engaging environment  Free, open access to soccer programming for residents of all ages and skill levels 

 Community gathering space that promotes healthy lifestyles and social connections


 A Grand Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new mini-pitch is planned for 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at the Penbrook Community Park (2923 Boas Street Harrisburg, PA 17103). This event is open to all, and community members are encouraged to attend. The event will include a DJ, food trucks and an ice cream truck. "We are thrilled to partner with Philadelphia Soccer 2026 and the U.S. Soccer Foundation to bring this outstanding amenity to Penbrook," said Nathan Newcomer, President of Penbrook Borough Council and Chair of the Parks & Recreation Committee. "This mini-pitch will provide our residents with a modern recreational space that encourages active play and brings our community together. In addition to thanking Philadelphia Soccer 2026 and the U.S. Soccer Foundation, we would also like to thank The JT Dorsey Foundation for their invaluable support during the application process.” 

Penbrook has commenced a 4-to-5-year multi-phase project to revitalize Penbrook Community Park. Additional enhancement plans for the Penbrook Community Park include:  A full-size basketball court  A dedicated grass soccer field  A dedicated baseball field  Inclusive playground equipment  Expanded parking  Dedicated quiet space  A half-mile ADA compliant walking path  Additional benches  Native plantings The revitalization plan intends to increase accessibility, expand access to outdoor recreational activities, and enhance public use of the space.
